Types of Patients

Every patient is different. Where they are in the cycle of their life with a prosthesis is different.  There are however commonalities that allow us to determine optimal treatment plans. The following are four different types of patients treated by the Eastern Prosthetic Clinic.  Each type requires different protocols and services to optimize their care.

  • The Rehab Patient – is a patient who has just suffered an amputation and who is learning how to return to their pre-amputation quality of life.
  • The Patient in Crisis – is a patient who has an artificial limb(s) and who has had a setback resulting in their quality of life.
  • The Patient in Recovery – is a patient who requires close follow-up and education to cope with living with their amputation and their prosthesis.
  • The Independent Patient – is a patient who is able to manage their care independently and apply the knowledge necessary for successful coping with their amputation and their prosthesis.

Our aim is to empower the patient through education, training and mentoring, so that life with a prosthesis becomes normal and not limiting.
