Discover what moves you
Creating the
Synthetic
Self
Uniquely you.
Facing change with strength and dignity.
Human
What does human 2.0 mean? To us, it means rebuilding both your function and your body image in the face of change. It means taking a challenging situation, and redesigning its meaning. We believe that you should still feel like exactly who you are, even if part of you is now made of titanium.
We’ll use cutting edge technology alongside tried and proven technique, to help you return to life as it should be: now partially synthetic, but entirely whole.
Just because you don’t have wings doesn’t mean you can’t fly. That’s why we made airplanes.

How is Human 2.0 built?
Interface
An interface is the mysterious thing that you connect to when you wear a prosthesis, and by which your prosthesis becomes a part of your body. This can happen in one of two ways: internally, by osseointegration (bone implants); or externally, with a socket.
What’s a socket? Your prosthesis is made of lots of parts, and if you have not had osseointegration surgery, your socket is one of the most important. Your socket is the connection between your body and the structural pieces and artificial joints that will move you. It takes your weight through your skeleton, connects you to the joints you need to move with, and secures all of the synthetic parts of you to the bony parts of you.
Composition of limbs
Getting back to doing isn’t enough. You want to get back to BEING… you! You need whole person solutions; not just prosthetic ones. We’ll make sure you understand all of the different elements of your prosthetic limb; the socket, the skeletal elements and joints, the covers, and all of the stuff you’ll need to make the whole system work properly for you.
Joint technology
The knee bone’s connected to the ankle bone… We don’t often think about the joints we rely on. When we create the synthetic self, we have choices to make and engineering to consider. But you don’t want to spend all of your time thinking about how all of these things work together. You have living to do! You need a prosthesis that lets you get back to the things you love: safely, effectively, and without hesitation. We know that your success depends highly on your prosthetic joints. We have built our reputation around helping you to understand and access the right components to meet your needs.
Innovation
We can’t give you your real limb back, but prosthetic advances are getting us a little closer all the time. You want to know that you are being offered the most current skills and technologies; you are always changing, and you want only the best for yourself and your loved ones. That’s what we want too! We’re always learning. We’re considered leaders in our field, and we’re firmly committed to providing you with solutions that we know work.
We encourage you to dream big, and to share those dreams with us, so that we can help you give them wings.
What does ‘real’ mean to you? Feeling real might be about embracing your mechanical self, or about disappearing into the ‘normal’… or any combination of these things. Your prosthesis is a part of your body, and how it looks should be as much within your control as how it operates. Some people feel a significant sense of return to wholeness when wearing a prosthesis that looks very much like their anatomical arm or leg; others prefer to embrace the mechanical look of some of today’s more advanced components, and relish the idea of showing the world that they are comfortable and confident as human/machine. Everyone has their own unique goals and aspirations; whatever yours are, we want to help you meet them with both function AND form.
Body Image
Every person everywhere has a body image. What’s that? Why does it matter? Body image is critical to mental health, and mental health IS a medical necessity. We encourage you to really think about what your body image means to you.
Human/Machine
Exposed metal skeleton, robotic joints that can be seen working for you, laser cut protective covers, and colourfully patterned sockets are features that lend craftsmanship to an uncovered prosthesis. In the 21st century, it’s socially acceptable to identify as partially robotic.
Why wouldn’t you? You’re amazing. Just the way you are.
Anatomical Restoration
At other times, disappearing into the normal might be a more appropriate treatment. A prosthetic limb that looks real, like its user, can actually decrease phantom pain much the way mirror box therapy can. Tattoos and things that are personal and exciting to us can also be healing and powerfully motivating.
Our team is highly trained and skilled in creating anatomically accurate limb shapes and anatomical silicone restorations that look as real as their wearer.
Our primary goal is to help you be… you.
Recovery is a journey;
not a destination
Remember those dreams we talked about? Now we’re going to help you turn them into goals. A plan, broken into achievable bite sized chunks.
No matter where you are in your life, we’re prepared to help you develop the skills you need. We’ve developed a state of the art facility; a performance centre, to help you get beyond the basics in your prosthetic journey. Some of the ways we can help you achieve your top function include our 200′ in-ceiling track circuit with fall prevention harness, and our dedicated network of trails and indoor/outdoor agility equipment and obstacles. We’ll help you learn to navigate varying terrain, and build both your skills and your confidence safely. We believe that recovery doesn’t exist without discovery.
Recovery

Your
Journey
of
Discovery
There’s much to consider as you transition to living with a prosthesis. It’s all well and good to talk about joints, structural elements, training – these are all important. But the most powerful and transformative element in this journey is the person looking back at you in the mirror every day. This entire process is about your evolving self – adapting, and ultimately thriving.
The changes go beyond the physical, incorporating the emotional and mental aspects of integrating a prosthesis into your unique identity.
We want you to know: we understand that the real recovery starts when you are settled back into your real world.
That’s when you’ll find that we are still right here with you.
